Romeo and Juliet Play Essay Example for Free
Romeo and Juliet Play EssayHow does Shakespeare present two or deuce-ace of the one- fourth dimension(a) generation and their roles in the persists tragic final stage? Romeo and Juliet is a spiel set in Renaissance Verona with a tragic conclusion of the two young lovers, Romeo and Juliet, dying. The whole pretend is about the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets and how their children, Romeo and Juliet, switch to pay the price for their actions and hatred to each other. As a result, the older generation incline name roles in the plays tragic conclusion due to their actions and decisions. Juliets death in particular is influenced by her parents and the guards betrayal to her and their lack of understanding in her. These characters also influence Romeos death and other individuals of the older generation homogeneous, Friar Lawrence and the Prince contribute to the plays tragic conclusion. The influences of Romeos and Juliets parents play a major part in the plays tragic conclusion. We know this because in the prologue it says their ancient grudge and their rage will cause Romeos and Juliets deaths which will be the only way to bury their parents strife. Shakespeare emphasises the importance of the parents roles in the plays tragic conclusion by using sonnet form and iambic pentameter in the prologue. The prologue implies that the parents play a major part in the plays tragic conclusion because it shows that their ancient grudge creates Romeos and Juliets doomed fate and the use of the sonnet form and iambic pentameter emphasises their importance. Among the parents, Capulet plays a key role in the plays tragic conclusion, in Juliets death in particular. In Act 1 setting 5, Tybalt recognizes Romeos articulate as a Montague and wants to strike him dead but Capulet orders him to do nonhing Content thee, gentle coz, let him alone. He keeps a peaceful carriage to Romeos uninvited presence and prevents Tybalt from starting a brawl. This suggests that if he hadnt stopped Tybalt, it would have prevented Romeo and Juliet from checking but his desire to appear as a good host to keep a good reputation stops him from doing so. Shakespeare shows Capulets desire to appear as a good host by using consecutive short sentences conveying contrasting emotions Be quiet, orMore light, more light For shame Ill make you quiet. What, cheerly, my sprightlinesss This implies that even when Tybalt wants to strike Romeo dead, he still talks to his guests in between his conversation with Tybalt, showing that he cares about his reputation a lot. Thus, Capulet contributes to Juliets death by letting Romeo meet Juliet because he cares about his reputation so he stops Tybalt from creating a scene in front of his guests. If he hadnt stopped Tybalt, he could have prevented Romeo and Juliet meeting, therefore preventing the plays tragic conclusion. Also, Capulet contributes to the plays tragic conclusion because he agrees to Pariss request of Juliets hand in marriage ceremony. In Act 3 Scene 4, after Tybalt dies, Paris askes for the second time for Juliets hand in marriage. Capulet agrees, non thinking about whether Juliet would in reality want to be married to Paris and saying that she will do it, she shall be married. Also, he displays a sense of urgency and haste in getting Juliet married to Paris. Shakespeare portrays this in his dialogue where Capulet asks questions but doesnt let Paris answer and carries on Will you be ready? Do you like this haste? This is reminiscent of the first time Paris askes for Juliets hand in marriage in Act 1 Scene 2 because his receipt was that Juliet is too young and that he should let two more summers wither in their pride and that his my will to consent is but a part because Juliet should agree too. From this response it indicates that he contradicts himself because instead of waiting two more course of instructions, he accepts his request and he agrees without Juliets consent saying that Juliet will do just as he wishes. His contradiction implies that yet over again hes thinking about his reputation and social status or that from Tybalts fulminant death, hes remembered how easily young people die in Renaissance Verona, hence his decision for Juliet to unite Paris as soon as possible. Either way, it shows that due to his single-mindedness and selfishness, he forgets about Juliets consent and agrees to the decision which evidently leads to her death.Furthermore, Capulets reaction to Juliet rejecting his plan for her to marry Paris contributes to the plays tragic conclusion. In Act 3 Scene 5, Lady Capulet tells Juliet about Capulets plan for her to marry Paris. Juliet rejects this decision, saying I will not marry yet and when I do, I swear it shall be Romeo. When Capulet learns of Juliets determination to defy him he becomes enraged and displays peevishness that even Lady Capulet, who agrees with Capulets decision, thinks that his anger is too much you are too h ot. Shakespeare depicts this anger through the use of blasphemous language Gods bread It makes me mad. This implies that Capulet is so angry that he even swears at God.Also, his anger is depicted through the use of animal language, calling Juliet a green-sickness carrion and a tallow face and how he lists what hes make solely for Juliet having an effect of exaggeration day, night, hour, tide, time, work, play, alone, in company, still my care hath been to have her matchd. To add, Capulets anger is conveyed from the use of rhetorical/illogical questions and how he mimics Juliet Ill not wed I cannot love, I am too young I pray you, pardon me. Capulets excessive anger suggests that he thinks Juliet is ungrateful for not wanting to marry his choice of groom for her and that hes angry because calling off the wedding would cause him embarrassment and loss of the political top executive the marriage would have brought him.Capulets angry reaction to Juliets defiance contributes to the pla ys tragic conclusion because he also ends up anger the Nurse calling her a mumbling fool and a gossips bowl which influences the Nurses change of attitude towards Romeo that makes Juliet go to Friar Lawrence wanting to cut down herself rather than to marry Paris. Also, Capulet contributes to the plays tragic conclusion by not supporting Juliets pleas for the marriage to be delayed a year and by yet again thinking about his reputation because if Juliet doesnt agree it will cause him embarrassment and loss of the political power the marriage would have brought him. Another parent that influences the plays tragic conclusion, in particular Juliets death is Lady Capulet. In Act 1 Scene 3, Lady Capulet introduces the idea of marrying Paris to Juliet. She describes him through metaphor precious book of love that lacks a cover. This implies that she thinks that Juliet can be the gold clasp to roll in the hay the unbound lover.Through this imagery, it shows her attitude to the role of wo men in marriage the wife is just a book cover or a decoration. Her weigh of a womans role in marriage is shown in her own relationship with Capulet where Capulet clearly dominates over her. This is typical in Renaissance Verona because during that time society was male-dominated. However, this is different in Romeo and Juliets relationship where there is equality to both genders. Also, she influences the plays tragic conclusion in Act 3 Scene 5 by not fulfilling her role as Juliets mother. After Capulets reaction to Juliet refusing to marry Paris, saying that he will abjure her, Juliet turns to her mother for comfort and for help. However, instead she says talk not to me, for Ill not speak a word. Do as thou wilt, for I have do with thee.Shakespeare uses iambic pentameter to make Lady Capulets words sound like spell-like, that they have an important and big impact. This suggests that Lady Capulet contributes to Juliets death by not fulfilling her role as her mother, instead she b etrays her with her words of rejection with added impact from the use of iambic pentameter. An individual from the older generation that influences the plays tragic conclusion is the Nurse. passim the play, the Nurse plays a loyal and mother-like role to Juliet and is always supportive to her decisions. However in Act 3 Scene 5, the Nurse has a change of heart. I think you are happy in this second match she says, saying that she speaks from the heart and from my soul too. Juliet is outraged with the Nurses change of heart because its like a betrayal. In the Nurses last line before she exits she says Marry, I will and this is wisely done. Shakespeare yet again uses iambic pentameter to make the Nurses betrayal to Juliet have a big impact. This suggests that the Nurse contributes to Juliets death because Shakespeares use of iambic pentameter in her rejection shows the significant impact it has on Juliet. Also, it implies that the Nurse doesnt understand that Juliets love for Romeo is t he real or that she doesnt want to lose Juliet to an uncertain future with Romeo or that she gives up so praises Paris helplessly. Thus, the Nurse is presented as person who doesnt like inconvenience, only encourages when the situation is convenient and her response to the inconvenience in this scene contributes to the plays tragic conclusion because she betrays Juliet.

Intro To Philosophy 1030-202 Essay Example for Free
Intro To Philosophy 1030-202 EssaySocrates was not a Sophist he never took money for his teaching, and rejected sophistical arguments. For one thing, the sophists taught for money. Socrates did not. For another, the sophists used language to win arguments and to sway peoples opinion bear uponless of the truth. Socrates used language to attain the truth. Socrates lived as an independent man. he did not want to go under any category. He was not paid for his irony and maieutics. Therefore he was not a sophist, as being a sophist was having a profession. Socrates was genuinely worried about why the young men were so disappointing. Socrates young students had been a occurrence disappointment to him. If Socrates could figure out exactly how the fathers had failed to properly educate their sons, he could save the city and restore Athens to its former glory. Socrates interesting idea was that humans excellence was re whollyy a kind of knowledge.Sophists were skilled in elaborate argum entation were they would try and make the argument they were focusing on the stronger side, even if it was faulty or weaker. This often made them seem devious as they were working only for the benefit of themselves and their students, who were aiming to become high profile speakers or politicians. Socrates was unlike this in that his main focus was not on argumentation or speaking, he rather focused on questioning virtues to understand morals and ethics. He believed that all opinions were valid which also opposed the views of the Sophists who assumed that the wisest of people were genuinely correct and only they had the ability to teach. The main goal of socrates was unlike that of the sophists. The aim of the Sophists was varied close to material possession and desire. They believed knowledge is a means to power and is to be used for political or material gain. Socrates believed his questions would encourage personal growth and stool a better society as a whole who would understa nd philosophy and ethics. Him only questionig rather than focusing on teaching separates him from the Sophists. This is due to the fact that questioning isnt a real method of teaching and Socrates himself stated I know one thing, that I know nothing. This puts him on the homogeneous level as his interlocutor and gives him an insight to other opinions. In Ancient Greece, the sophists were a group of teachers of philosophy and rhetoric. This group of Greek philosophers and teachers in the 5th ascorbic acid BC, who speculated on a wide range of subjects flawed arguments superficially correct in its reasoning, which deliberately invalid argument displaying ingenuity in reasoning in the hope of deceiving someone. There was a difference between the two, sophists showed that equally good arguments could be advanced on either side of any issue they were skeptics who doubted that there could be any certain or reliable knowledge. On the other hand, socrates was committed to the pursuit of truth and considered it his mission to seek out certain knowledge. remote philosophers before them, Sophists claimed to be wise enough to teach whatever you might want to know as long as you. Socrates said he was a citizen of the world. Whether in Athens or elsewhere he was meditating, and he was helping others finding their true selves.Furthermore, Socrates did not travel from city to city seeking sassy students to teach. He was the opposite in that he remained loyal to his home town of Athens. This is evident as he started becoming popular amongst the people who would often regard him as annoying. His popularity therefore proves that he wasnt a travel like the sophists. Socrates has some attributes of the Sophists, such as having students, his overall method and aim was obdurate to theirs. Socrates himself states in his apology I do indeed admit that I am eloquent. But in how different a way from theirs which reinforces the fact that he may be good in rhetoric but his goal is n ot to teach argumentation and political skills. As a result it is make that Socrates wanted to simply question people on ethics and morals and not teach for material or prolific gains.

Ansible is recommended to automate the deployment and configuration management of the System and its Applications.Ansible Automation can be setup on any machine as it does not require a daemon or database. It will begin with the assigned user to SSH into a host file. This allows the user to run the Ansible script to execute the roles which runs various tasks defined.NOTE In scope of the IVR applications the ansible script executes multiple roles for the creation of EC2 Instances and the installation of WebSphere Applications. Each of these roles have their very own YAML script to create and populate the instance.REQUIREMENTS The Requirements for Ansible Server includes the followingAnsible Tower Setup requires to be on a Linux Instance (CentOS or RHEL),Linux setup for some basic services including Git, Python, OpenSSL.Some Additional RequirementJinja2 A modern, fast and easy to use stand-alone templat e engine for Python.PyYAML A YAML parser and emitter for the Python programming language.Paramiko A native Python SSHv2 channel library.Httplib2 A comprehensive HTTP client library.SSHPass A non-interactive SSH password authentication.ANSIBLE FILE STRUCTURE Ansible Playbook is a model of configuration or a process which contains number of plays. Each play is used to map a group of hosts to some well-defined roles which can be represented by ansible call tasks.Master Playbook The Master Playbook file contains the information of the rest of the Playbook. The Master Playbook for the project has been given as Site.yml.This YAML script is used to define the roles to execute.NOTE The roles in the Master Playbook are invoked to perform their respective tasks.Path = /ivr/aws_env/playbooks/ivrSITE.YMLInventory Ansible contains information about the hosts and groups of hosts to be managed in the hosts file. This is also called an breed file.Path = /ivr/aws_env/playbooks/ivr/inventoryGroup V ariables and Host Variables Similar to the hosts inventory file, you can also include hosts and groups of hosts configuration variables in a separate configuration folder like group_vars and hosts_vars.These can include configuration parameters, whether on the application or operating system level, which may not be valid for all groups or hosts. This is where having multiple files can be useful inside group_vars or hosts_vars, you can create a group or host in more than one way, allowing you to define specific configuration parameters.Roles Roles in Ansible build on the idea of include files and combine them to form clean, reusable abstractions they allow you to focus more on the big picture and only define the details when needed. To correctly use roles with Ansible, you need to create a roles directory in your working Ansible directory, and then any infallible sub-directories.The Following displays the Playbook Structure for Ansible.ANSIBLE SETUP Ansible Setup is carried out o n a managing server which has access to all your remote servers or nodes. The Process can be demonstrated with a few simple steps.Step I.Login as the Root User on the Instance where Ansible needs to be installed.Use the sudo apt-get install ansible -y involve to install the package onto an Ubuntu/Debian System.Use the sudo yum install ansible -y command to install the package onto a CentOS/RHEL/Fedora System.Step II.The Ansible system can connect to any remote server using SSH by authenticating the request.NOTE Ansible can use ssh-keygen to create a RSA encrypted key and can copy it to the remote server to connect using SSH without authentication.Step III. pretend an Inventory file which is used to work against multiple systems across the infrastructure at the same time. This is executed by taking portions of the systems associate in the Inventory file. The Default path for the Inventory file is etc/ansible/hosts.NOTE This path can be changed by using -i which is a recommended op tion depending on the project requirement. There can be more than one inventory files which can be executed at the same time. The inventory file holds the group names which defines the group of servers that are maintained together. The inventory file needs to be populated with the host IP Addresses that are to be accessed. The inventory file is as followsPath = /ivr/aws_env/playbooks/ivr/inventoryhostsThe IVR in the brackets indicates group names. Group names are used to classify systems and determining which systems you are going to control at what times and for what reason. The group name can be used to interact with all the hosts alongside different modules (-m) defined in ansible.Example ansible -m ping IVRANSIBLE CONFIGURATION The Configuration file for Ansible is used to make certain changes to the default configuration. The Priority configuration changes are searched by ansible in the following orderPath= /ivr/aws_env/playbooks/ivr/etc/ansible.cfg is the path setup for ansible con figuration changes.CLOUD FORMATIONAWS CloudFormation is a service that helps you model and set up your Amazon Web Services resources so that you can draw less time managing those resources and more time focusing on your applications that run-in AWS.You create a template that describes all the AWS resources that you want (like Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances), and AWS CloudFormation takes care of provisioning and configuring those resources for you.You dont need to individually create and configure AWS resources and figure out whats dependent on what AWS CloudFormation handles all of that.CloudFormation templetCloudFormation templates are created for the service or application architectures you want and have AWS CloudFormation use those templates for quick and reliable provisioning of the services or applications (called dozens). You can also easily update or replicate the stacks as needed.Example Template STEPS TO LAUNCH A CLOUD FORMATION STACK Sign in to AWS Mana gement Console and open the Cloud Formation console at http//console.aws.amazon.com/cloudformation/From the navigation bar select the region for the instance Click on the lay down a New Stack.Choose an natural selection from a Sample Template, Template to S3 and S3 Template URL Using a template to build an EC2 Instance Enter a Stack Name and forget the Key Pair to SSH into the Instance.aAAdd Tags to the Instance, this also help organize your instance to group with application specific, team specific instances.Review and Create Stack.CloudFormation Stack starts building the stack using the template. In Scope of this Project, IVR Application Instances are build using a Cloud Formation Template and will be triggered using Ansible Role.Simple Storage Service (S3)Elastic burden Balancer (ELB)A weight hemp serves as a single betoken of contact for clients, which increases the availability of your application. You can add and remove instances from your load balancer as your needs cha nge, without disrupting the overall flow of requests to your application. Elastic Load Balancing scales your load balancer as traffic to your application changes over time, and can scale to the clear majority of workloads automatically. You can configure health checks, which are used to manage the health of the sayed instances so that the load balancer can send requests only to the healthy instances. You can also offload the work of encryption and decryption to your load balancer so that your instances can focus on their main work.Setting Up an Elastic Load BalancerStep 1 Select a Load Balancer TypeElastic Load Balancing supports two types of load balancersApplication Load Balancers andClassic Load Balancers. To create an Elastic Load Balancer, Open the Amazon EC2 console and choose Load Balancers on the navigation pane.Step 2 tack together Your Load Balancer and ListenerOn the tack together Load Balancer page, complete the following procedure. To configure your load balancer and t ender1. For Name, type a name for your load balancer. The name of your Application Load Balancer must be unique within your set of Application Load Balancers for the region, can have a maximum of 32 characters, can contain only alphanumeric characters and hyphens, and must not begin or end with a hyphen.2. For Scheme, keep the default value, internet-facing.3. For IP address type, select ipv4 if your instances support IPv4 addresses or dual stack if they support IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.4. For Listeners, keep the default, which is a listener that accepts HTTP traffic on port 80.5. For availableness Zones, select the VPC that you used for your EC2 instances. For each of the two Availability Zones that contain your EC2 instances, select the Availability Zone and then select the public subnet for that Availability Zone.6. Choose Next assemble Security Settings.Step 3 Configure a Security Group for Your Load BalancerThe security group for your load balancer must allow it to communicate w ith registered brands on both the listener port and the health check port. The console can create security groups for your load balancer on your behalf, with rules that specify the correct protocols and ports.Note If you prefer, you can create and select your own security group instead. For more information, see Recommended Rules in the Application Load Balancer Guide. On the Configure Security Groups page, complete the following procedure to have Elastic Load Balancing create a security group for your load balancer on your behalf.Step 4 Configure Your Target GroupTo configure a security group for your load balancer1. Choose Create a new security group.2. Type a name and description for the security group, or keep the default name and description. Thisnew security group contains a rule that allows traffic to the load balancer listener port that you selectedon the Configure Load Balancer page.3. Choose Next Configure Routing.Step 4 Configure Your Target GroupCreate a target group, w hich is used in request routing. The default rule for your listener routes requests to the to registered targets in this target group. The load balancer checks the health of targets in this targetgroup using the health check settings defined for the target group. On the Configure Routing page, complete the following procedure. To configure your target group1. For Target group, keep the default, New target group.2. For Name, type a name for the new target group.3. Keep Protocol as HTTP and Port as 80.4. For Health checks, keep the default protocol and ping path.5. Choose Next Register Targets.Step 5 Register Targets with Your Target GroupOn the Register Targets page, complete the following procedure. To register targets with the target group1. For Instances, select one or more instances.2. Keep the default port, 80, and choose Add to registered.3. If you need to remove an instance that you selected, for Registered instances, select the instanceand then choose Remove.4. When you have fin ished selecting instances, choose Next Review.Step 6 Create and Test Your Load BalancerBefore creating the load balancer, review the settings that you selected. After creating the load balancer, verify that its sending traffic to your EC2 instances. To create and test your load balancer1. On the Review page, choose Create.2. After you are notified that your load balancer was created successfully, choose Close.3. On the navigation pane, under LOAD BALANCING, choose Target Groups.4. Select the newly created target group.5. The prevalence of Tetanus in Canada and India
The preponderance of lockjaw in Canada and IndiaA critical comparison of the vaccination and hygienic influences on the prevalence of Tetanus in Canada and India.Tetanus is caused by a toxin, tetanaspasmin, produced by the bacterium Clostridium tetani (Guifoile 2008, p. 10). This toxin affects the inhibiting motor neurons indoors the body, causing muscle contractions to become erratic and violent. These contractions argon elevatedly painful for the individual suffering them, the contractions being violent enough to cause the strongest of bones in the body to fracture. In the last century, around 1940, the likelihood of finish if you contracted lockjaw was approximately 90% (Guifoile 2008, p. 10). Over time, however, vaccines and effective treatment options were developed, decreasing the mortality rate of lockjaw. The vaccination programs of two countries, Canada and India, are both(prenominal) substanti all(prenominal)y thorough for the rampart against tetanus. Further much(p renominal), Canada has a high standard of hygiene and sanitisation, further lowering the risk of tetanus in the country. India, however, does not know as high sanitation or hygiene standards, which may have an effect on the protection of tetanus. Both India and Canada follow vaccination procedures in order to prevent tetanus infection. Because of this, tetanus in Canada is quite rare the PHAC (2014) states that through the years of 1990 and 2010 there were approximately 4 cases per year of tetanus in Canada. In India, though the prevalence of tetanus has declined, it is still a major health problem with significant morbidity and mortality due to incomplete vaccination (Kole et al. 2013). Skowronksi et al. (2004) reports that in New Delhi, India, 53% of adults were reported to have no protection against tetanus. This is comparable to Canada, in which a study reported that roughly 55% of adults do not have protection against tetanus. Whilst less have gotten immunized in Canada co mpared to the number of adults vaccinated in India, Tetanus is still a threatening disease in India. Considering this, both Indian and Canadian infants are given the tDap/DTap vaccinations. In Canada, routine vaccinations for newborns are given at 2 months of age, then again at 4, 6, 8, and 12-23 months. The Canadian vaccination instrument suggests that children under the age of 6 should be vaccinated more than 20 times (Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) 2014). Furthermore, Skowkronski et al. (2004) states that Canadian immunisation programs are publicly-funded in all provinces. This is similar to in India, as the National Immunization Schedule ensures all children in the country under the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) are immunise free of charge. Moreover, the newborn vaccinations are not done as frequently in India. Newborn children are not vaccinated until 8 weeks of age, then they are again vaccinated at 16 weeks. An another(prenominal) vaccination is given at 15 -18 months (Viswanathan 2005). Whilst both Canada and India provide vaccinations against tetanus to newborn children and infants, this may not have any relation to the prevalence of tetanus in India, however, due to the tetanus bacterium being spread only by wounds or fecal-oral transmission (Ji, cited by Mercola 2012).The majority of fields and roads are contaminated with animal feces in India. Because of this, Kole et al. (2013) suggests that the farming population in India should be targeted for complete tetanus immunization as they may be exposed more often to animal feces and contaminated farming. Contrastingly in Canada, there is a largely higher(prenominal) level of hygiene and sanitation unlike India, human or animal fecal matter does not sit in the streets. As such, the risk of the soil or environment having been contaminated by the tetanus bacteria is low. This may link back to Canadas low prevalence of tetanus despite the lack of vaccinated individuals. As tetanus spread s through fecal matter and the bacterium can reside in the soil, Ji (cited by Mercola 2012) suggests that hygiene, sanitation and proper nutrition should be focused on in order to prevent the transmission of tetanus and other fecal-oral route viruses. This may also reduce the morbidity of tetanus if a person is infected. Ji statesYou simply cant vaccinate people out of unhealthy conditions, and as Indias new epidemic of vaccine-induced polio cases clearly demonstrates, the cure may be far worse than the disease itself (cited by Mercola 2012).Whilst Ji is discussing the affects of the 2011 polio epidemic in India caused by vaccinations, this statement can still be applied to tetanus as the process of infection is the same fecal-oral route. However, tetanus can also be transmitted through punctures or wounds (Guilfoile 2008) which strengthens the link between Indias poor sanitation and hygiene and the prevalence of tetanus many Indian people walk with bare feet, increasing the likelih ood of stepping on a stick/nail/other such thing that is contaminated with the tetanus bacterium. Furthermore, according to Guilfoile (2008), has been found in the fecal matter of humans and other animals thus leading to the tetanus bacterium being common in the soil in rural areas in the country. Both India and Canada both provide free and routine vaccinations again tetanus (TDap/dTap vaccine), and both countries ensure newborns are vaccinated and are given booster shots. It has been established that both countries have fairly thorough vaccination schedules, though Canadas schedule includes more frequent vaccinations for infants. However, it can be thought that the number of immunizations against tetanus do little to protect against the bacterium that cause tetanus, as these bacteria are transferred via the brim through fecal matter (Ji, cited by Mercola 2012). It can be concluded that India, due to fecal matter amongst the streets and the generally low standard of hygiene within the country, is an area of which tetanus infection is much more likely, with or without vaccination. Due to Canadas higher sanitation and hygiene levels, despite the lower vaccination rate, tetanus is much less prevalent there and has a lower mortality rate.Word count 968ReferencesMercola, J 2012, Confirmed Indias Polio Eradication Campaign in 2011 Caused 47,500 Cases of Vaccine-Induced Polio Paralysis, Mercola, viewed 12 April 2015, http//articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/08/28/polio-eradication-campaign.aspxKole, A, Roy, R Kole, D 2013, Tetanus still a public health problem in India observations in an pathogenic diseases hospital in Kolkata, South-East Asia Journal of Public Health, pp. 184-186Public Health Agency of Canada 2014, Canadian Immunization Guide, Public Health Agency of Canada, viewed 9 April 2015, http//www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/publicat/cig-gci/p04-tet-eng.phpVijayalakshmi, M 2014, Resources, All For Kids India, viewed 9 April 2015, http//www.allforkidsi ndia.com/Resources/VaccineOptions.aspxVashishtha, V 2011, FAQs on Vaccines and Immunization practices, Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers, New Delhi, India, p. 37.Viswanathan, R 2005, Get Your Tetanus Shot Today, Rediff, viewed 9 April 2015, http//www.rediff.com/getahead/2005/jun/13tetanus.htmSkowronski, D, Pielak, K, Remple, V, Halperin, B, Patrick, D, Naus, M McIntyre, C 2004, Adult tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis immunization knowledge, beliefs, behaviour and anticipated uptake, Vaccine, vol. 23, no. 3, pp. 353-361.Guifoile, P 2008, Deadly Diseases and Epidemics Tetanus, Infobase Publishing, New York, New York, pp. 10-16.This form meets the 2006 requirements of UniSAs Code of Good Practice Student Assessment1

Corporate Social Responsibility at British Airways
integrated cordial Responsibility at British AirwaysIntroductionThis report concerns with an investigation of business ethics in British Airways (BA) and in particular an event that happened in August 2005 with its catering occupyor admission gourmet. The main objectives of this report are-To examine BAs approach towards collective Social Responsibility. To elucidate whether Gate foodies employees are part of BAs stakeholder or not.To explain the veto out lessenTo explore respectable issues involved in the practice of outsourcing. The objective of the report will be achieved by using theories and conceits of business ethics. This report will propose possible a good turn of informative conclusions on how BA handles Corporate Social Responsibility and the particular problem with Gate Gourmet.Page 3BAs approach towards corporate social responsibilityCorporate social responsibility (CSR) CSR is a type of corporate self regulation integrated into a business model. Superlatively , CSR policy would function as integrated, self-governing device whereby business would observe and fall upon sure that its adherence to law, ethical standards, and international norms. Business would accept responsibility for the regulate of their activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and all otherwise members of the public. In order to weigh up the approach of Corporate Social Responsibility a well known framework has been used which was devised by Elkington (1999) called the triple-bottom line. harmonize to triple bottom line a corporate doesnt have only one purpose that is to add economic value to their corporation hardly also to add environmental and social value too. Triple bottom line gives a clearer picture of what the components of sustainability actually represents in terms of a goal for business ethics by examining them separately.SocialsurroundEconomicviableSustainablebearableEquitableJohn Elkington (1998)Page 4Economic perspec tive The economic perspective recognizes that continued growth in population, industrial activity, resource use and population could mean that standard of living would in the long run decline. A narrow belief of economic sustainability focuses on the economic performances of the corporation itself the responsibility of heed is to develop, produce and market those products that assure long term economic performance for the corporation. This includes a focus on strategies that destiny in motion long term rise in share price, revenue and share market rather than short term explosions of profits at the expense of long term possibility. A broader concept of sustainability would take account of the companys attitude towards bribes and building cartels. They could be regarded as frugally unsustainable they are not involuntary to fund the political institutional system (schools, hospitals, police and justice system) then they eat away at the key institutional basis of corporate success. From 2000 the air hose industries cosmopolitan had been suffering from less number of passenger wanting to fly which was due to 9/11 incident, Sars epidemic and rise in the fire be following the war in Iraq. BAs approach towards Corporate Social Responsibility on economic is that to maintain its economic system BA has been outsourcing its work and reducing cost of personnel through redundancies and various other resources.Social perspective This is a recent improvement in the Corporate Social Responsibility. It has come to pass from apprehension about the effect of business activities on native communities in less developed countries and regions. The addition of social contemplation has marked a move in the way ideas about sustainability were put forward. The major issue in the social perspective of sustainability is that of social justice. In spite of the remarkable advances in standards of living that many of us have enjoyed, there are growing lack of correspondence of income and wealth within many countries. In a much just an evenhanded world, living standards will lead to much economic affluence.BAs approach towards Corporate Social Responsibility on social is that it has indomitable to modify up to 500 applicants a year to realize their dreams through the London 2012 Great Britons Programme. Page 5It is aiming to raise 1.5 cardinal for Change for Good to assistance vulnerable children around the world by 2009/10. BA has plans to increase the number of collogue who donate to payroll giving by 50 percent by 2012. It will continue to work with Comic Relief and Children in Need. BA has aims to increase the number of young people participating in educational activities to 8000 per year.environmental perspective The notion of sustainability came into sight mainly from environmental trepidation. The fundamental principles of sustainability in the environmental perspective alarm the effective management of physical resources so that they are preserved f or the future. All bio systems are regarded as having limited resources and finite energy and hence sustainable human activity must maneuver at a level that does not threaten the health of those systems. Even at the most crucial point these distress a need to dispatch a number of significant problems like greenhouse gases from industrial plants and consumer products.BAs approach towards Corporate Social Responsibility on environmental is that it is planning to reduce Co2 emission by 50 percent by 2050.it is aiming to reduce noise per flight by 15 percent. BA has plans to recycle its waste up to 50 percent by 2010 and aims to send zero waste to landfill by 2010 across Heathrow and Gatwick.Reference Elkington, J. (1997)http//www.britishairways.com/travel/csr-corporate-responsibility/public/en_gbIt is can be concluded that BA uses or has an approach to Corporate Social Responsibilities put forward by Elkingtons Triple Bottom Line. Those can be divided into Economic, Social and Environ mental.Weather Gate Gourmets employees are part of BAs stakeholderIt has been do a case that contractors are not legitimate stakeholders for a client. On the other hand in order to find out whether this is the case the concept of salience of stakeholders will be used. There are three factors that consider the salience of stakeholder and they are Power, Legitimacy and Urgency. Page 6Power it is the apparent capacity of a stakeholder to exercise organisational action.Legitimacy whether the organization perceives the stakeholders actions as desirable, proper, or appropriate.Urgency The extent to which stakeholder demand are professed to call for immediate attention.Reference Mitchell, R.K, Agle, B.R., and Wood, D.J. (1997)Gate Gourmet had been losing 1.5 million a day due to the new contract put forward by BA which had very tough terms. Because of this Gate Gourmet decided to employ new lag on lower wages. So, on 10 August 2005 when 120 new employees were brought in the company the existing workers decided to go on strike while the trade union representatives went to talk to the management. But after three minutes the management of the Gate Gourmet plunder 700 staff without negotiating with the employees. The very following day BAs baggage handling staff at Heathrow airport went on one day strike grounding 700 flights and more than 100,000 passengers in BAs global network. It was nothing to do with BA but the reason of the strike was because BAs suppliers of in-flight meal Gate Gourmet had sacked 600 of its employee who had relatives in the BAs baggage handling staff. BA termed this walkout technically il legitimate and refused to pay the strikers wages and workers went back to their duty only after only a one day strike. On the other hand this incident brought bad reputation to BAs global operation and also lost cost of more than 60 million. After a lengthy and controversial talks and negotiations BA decided to revise its supply contract with Gate Gourmet o n bettor terms.Gate Gourmet had been losing 1.5 million a day due to the tough terms put forward by BA but they could do nothing to make BA revise its terms. It files that Gate Gourmet have no ability to influence the action of BA.(Power)BA didnt take any interest to the Gate Gourmets case and refused to pay its workers on strike and aspect stakeholders actions as undesirable, improper and inappropriate. (legitimacy) Page 7BA didnt try to solve its stakeholders (Gate Gourmet) immediately but took lengthy and controversial talks to revise its terms. BA didnt show any urgency to solve its stakeholders problem. (urgency)Reference WWW.guardian .co.ukTherefore I conclude that BA is not a legitimate stakeholder according to the concept of Salience of stakeholder. The negative outcomeMendelow created a stakeholder analysis chart for mapping stakeholders reason over the corporate and the interest the corporate has over his stakeholder.STAKEHOLDER ANALYSISLow Interest senior gameMinimum effort keep informedA BKeep satisfied key p social classsC DLowPower interest hyaloplasmPOWERHighMendelow (1991) Chart of Stakeholder Analysis Page 8Segment A represents that the stakeholder has low power which means that the stakeholder has less ability to influence organizational goal and the corporate has less interest in the stakeholder. That is why the corporate puts minimum effort to satisfy the stakeholder.Segment B represents that the stakeholder has low power and cannot influence the corporate goal but the corporate has high interest on the stakeholder because the stakeholder in segment B can be important allies in influencing the attitude of more powerful stakeholder through lobbying. Thus the corporate keep informed about its shareholder.Segment C represents that the stakeholder has high power and can influence the corporate goal but the corporate has less interest in the stakeholder. As the stakeholder is powerful the corporate tries to keep the shareholders satisfied. Segment D represent that the stakeholder has high power and can easily influence the goal of the corporate and the chart also shows that the corporate also has high interest on its stakeholder. The stakeholder has high power and the corporate also has high interest in them so they are a key player to the corporate.Reference Mendelow, A. (1991) in Johnson, G., Scholes, K. and Whittington, R. (2005)Gate Gourmet had been losing 1.5 million a day due to the new contract put forward by BA which had very tough terms. As Gate Gourmet couldnt make BA revise its term we can say that Gate Gourmet has low power. Because of this Gate Gourmet decided to employ new staff on lower wages and the existing employee of Gate Gourmet went on strike opposing the decision made by the management. The management sacked 700 staff without negotiating but BA remained quiet during this course of event. It shows that BA has low interest in Gate Gourmet and thus had put no effort in getting involved in the Gate Gourmet situation. Page 9When 600 employees were sacked by Gate Gourmet the relatives of the sacked employee who were in the BAs baggage handling in the Heathrow went on strike on support of their colleague. Due to this strike 700 flights and more than 100,000 passengers were grounded. This compelled BA to revise its supply contract with Gate Gourmet on better terms. Hence, in this way Gate Gourmet became a key player from minimum effort.Referencecorporatw www.guardian.co.ukEthical issues involved in the practice of outsourcing.Problems with Outsourcing According to Sheffi (2005) companies should never swan on only one contractor and in case of BA, it should have used more than one caterer or the relationship should have been closer so that it could have known more about what the contractor is doing. Some organization, like banks have been disapproved of for poor customer support from outsourced Indian call centers. Also Nike and quip have been bothered over the sweat shops allege dly operated by some of their suppliers. Outsourcing an activity does not mean it is no longer an organizations problem. And according to Emmelhainz and Adams (1999), there is a shift towards global supply and competition and individual firms appear to be vistad with the outlook of an extended chain of responsibility. Once it was perfectly satisfactory to press that the ethics of an organizations suppliers, or a firm influence on its competitors, was simply not any of its business, this no longer seems to be the case. Hence, corporations have to take their ethical responsibilities much more largely as a result, the supply chain has to be used as a means of expression for ethics management and regulation. Page 10Carolls Model (1991)Economic responsibilities Companies have shareholders who require a reasonable return on their investments, they have employees who want safe and fairly paying(a) jobs, they have customers who insist good quality products at a fair price, etc. This is b y definition the motivation why businesses are set up in partnership and so the first task of business is to be properly functioning economic unit and to stay in business. This first layer of Carrolss model is the basis for all the successive responsibilities, which rest on this solid basis. According to Carroll (1991), the satisfaction of economic responsibilities is thus required of all corporations. From 2000 the airline industries worldwide had been suffering from less number of passenger wanting to fly which was due to 9/11 incident, Sars epidemic and rise in the fuel costs following the war in Iraq. So, BA outsourced its service (in flight meal served by Gate Gourmet) to reduce its cost and to increase its profitability. The ethical issue of outsourcing regarding economical responsibilities is that it helps to give shareholders a reasonable return, its employees a safe and fairly paid job and satisfy the customers needs.Legal responsibilities Laws are the codification of socie tys incorrupt views. For example Microsoft has had to face an antitrust case for abusing its monopolistic position. Page 11To outsource cheap labour if a company brings illegal immigrants than it is illegal. Every firm has to follow societys moral view.Ethical Responsibility These responsibilities compel corporations to do what is right, just and fair even when they are not compelled to do so by the legal framework. For example it was legal to dispose of an oil rig in the sea but was it ethical?Gate Gourmet had been losing 1.5 million a day due to the new contract put forward by BA which had very tough terms. Because of this Gate Gourmet decided to outsource new staff on lower wages. So, on 10 August 2005 120 new employees were brought in the company which made the existing employees insecure. So they went on a strike but they sacked 700 staff without negotiating with them. Outsourcing must not be use only to fulfill the economic responsibilities of a firm but also try to think eth ically by not being unfair and unjust to its employees as the Gate Gourmet. beneficent Responsibility The word Philanthropic is derived from the Greek word which means love of the blighter human. According to this proposal in a business context, the mock-up incorporates activities that are within the corporations judgment to improve the quality of life of employees, local communities and ultimately society in general. This feature of CSR addresses a great range of topic, including things such as charitable donations, the building of recreation facilities for employees and their families, support for local schools or subsidizing of art and sports events. According to Carrolls (1991), philanthropic responsibilities are consequently purely preferred of corporations without being estimated or required, making them less important than the other three categories.References Emmelhainz, M.A and Adams R.J(1999)A. Crane and D.Matten (2007)www.guardian.co.ukPage 12By outsourcing its services BA has increased its profitability but it is also involved with many non profitable organizations which helps the society. In this way outsourcing can fulfill firms Philanthropic Responsibility. So I conclude that ethical issues involved in the modern practice of outsourcing are economic responsibilities, legal responsibilities, ethical responsibilities and philanthropic responsibilities.

Good Fellas Movie Poster Analysis Essay -- Papers
Good Fellas Movie Poster Analysis My analysis is base on the movie Good Fellas. The three men that argon featured on the poster pictured in medium frame are the main characters and are also the main focus of my analysis. Robert DeNiroThe facial expressions and posture of DeNiro shown on the poster enables you to see that he looks like a rough tough guy cable who is very serious when it comes to business. The frown on his face as evidence by his creased forehead and one eyebrow higher than the other together with his folded arms and upright stance suggest that he is serious. In addition to this the larger size of the face as well as that of his whole frame in comparison to the others tells that he is the authorative figure and maybe the oldest. He is wearing top businessman suit complete with a red tie, which suggests that hes a man who is not to be crossed, as the colour red is symbolic for love or death (blood). In other words he appears to be say ing if you are not with me you will be eliminated. Joe PesciHe...

Mothers Against Drunk Driving Essay -- Alcohol Teenagers Papers, DUI
Mothers Against Drunk DrivingIn the class 2001 more in that locationfore 800,000 injuries occurred in the United States from alcohol related accidents, while more than 40% of automobile crashes were due to the abuse of alcohol (MADD homepage). These overwhelming statistics are just a small piece of the very large puzzle that stuns the nation with deaths every year. For some plenty, these statistics are more than just phrases on paper they are haggle that are haunting reminders of the tragedies and losses they have experienced in their lifetime. One such mother was so distraught by the loss of her thirteen year old daughter Carrie Lightner, who was killed by a drunk driver, began the organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). On the other side of the country another mother was opinion the same pain as her five and a half month old daughter, Laura Lamb, took her last breath after a drunk driver smitten their car. Together these women joined forces to share their suffering s with others in the same situation, while striving to prevent future accidents and conditions such as the ones they had just experienced.Since MADD has been in existence there has been a 43% decline in alcohol related traffic fatalities (MADD stats and resources homepage). It has consistently been providing statistics on excessive drinking, complete drunk driving research, the effects of small drinking, laws regarding alcohol, and current news stories. MADD is not just advertised on the television and library, but has continuously been able to reach the public through the use of the internet. The website www.madd.org has reached thousands of people to spread the word of the harmful effects of alcohol abuse whether the consumer is underage or not. The large load of ... ...ople still take the keys after drinking alcohol. The holiday season is traumatic to so many families as in the year 2001 there were 4,943 deaths between Thanksgiving and New Years because of alcohol abuse (MADD statistics and resources). When is plentiful, enough? When impart the public take some initiative and responsibility? When will people start paying closer attention to their actions and then the consequences? MADD has already interpreted this step and has been working for the past twenty years in making a difference. There endless support and dedication to the issue is clearly a necessity as they have worked to create programs and awareness on the issue. The statistics provided have been so appalling that after one has read the material on the MADD homepage, they will already become aware, but upon continuing to its links, the reader will feel the need to take action.
